- Reminds me of Terry Tao's eulogy for Jean Bourgain where Tao mentions he spent 6 months of his PhD reading one of Jean's papers. Jean had a toolkit of "basic" techniques that he'd apply with comments like "one may see" that made Tao write "I hate Jean Bourgain" in his notes.
