    Our COVID figures today: The Alfred: 35 ICU: 31 (COVID+ and ongoing care) Ventilator: 8 ECMO: 17 ICU specialist David Pilcher said many patients still require advanced care such as ECMO. "We've never had this many patients on this advanced form of life support at one time."

    Our COVID figures today: The Alfred: 77 ICU: 30 (COVID+ and ongoing care) Ventilator: 11 ECMO: 11 Discharged: 12 ICU director @ICUKombi said the unit has expanded 30% to 57 beds. "This is the biggest ICU setup we’ve ever had at The Alfred."

    Our COVID figures today: The Alfred: 51 ICU: 27 (COVID+ and ongoing care) Ventilator: 10 ECMO: 11 ICU nurse Ella said many COVID-19 patients need to be carefully turned face down to improve oxygenation. “It can take eight staff to prone an ICU patient.”

    There aren't any patients with COVID-19 in the unit right now, but the staff in our ICU regularly hone their skills with in-situ simulation. Here the team are practicing intubation of a COVID positive patient on a manikin as part of a dedicated approach to keep everyone safe.
