As thousands of Yazidis yet again flee Shingal for the Kurdistan Region ~ last night, dep governor of Duhok told us that over *3,000* people have left due to ISF-YBS clashes ~ this is a fascinating piece by @_____mjb on the YJS: the women's wing of the YBS

Civil activists of the #Tishreen movement are gathering in Baghdad's #Nisour Square now, in the shadow of the city's tower, expressing their frustrations re the ongoing political crisis. Peaceful, lots of security, chanting of "we are the young who will build the country." #Iraq

In 2015, 85+ people were killed by a Dutch airstrike in Hawija. The Dutch MOD agreed to pay a "voluntary contribution" of $4.4 mill - $1.7 mill to @undpiniraq & $3.6 mill to @IOMIraq - which survivors say they've seen little of. By @PMagid & @HawreKhalid2:

Today marks the 1 year since the #Yazidi Survivors Law was passed by the Iraqi Parliament. This weekend in Khanke, Iraqi Kurdistan, I met many women + children who had absolutely NO idea how to access support nor that it was even available. Serious issues in its implementation.

Yazidis today celebrate their religious festival, the Îda Êzî. I was really glad to visit the #Yazidi religious site of Lalish this week, in Duhok Governorate's mountain valleys. Approx 2,500 #Yazidi women + children remain unaccounted for following ISIS' enslavement in 2014. 🕯️

From the top of the Kurdistan Region’s highest mountain – Halgurd – you can also see Iran & Turkey. Quite the climb….!! A stunning place to hike. So lucky to have walked/slid it in such great company. 🌞 ⚠️ Not for the fainthearted ⚠️

Beautiful #Kurdistan - excited to be on a small part of the new Zagros Mountain Trail ⛰ 250km from Al Qosh to Choman, and some great guides stationed along the way... major creds to Leon + Laween behind the project 👏

Here is my piece on the struggles facing one family: Khansa - grandmother - living alone with 4 of her grandchildren: all held by ISIS for varying lengths. Barely a week before I met them, her eldest - Roza, 18 - had returned from Syria after almost 8 yrs. rudaw.net/english/middle…
