I would like to take this moment to wish Afrikaners a happy #Geloftedag (Day of the Vow). This is a deeply significant day in their history as a nation where they will be commemorating how a covenant they made with God led to their victory in the Battle of Blood River.
As a Zulu, I also reflect on this important day, remembering our fallen warriors. While commemorating the sacrifices of our ancestors, I acknowledge the errors made by our leader at the time uDingane kaSenzangakhona, which led to the battle itself.
It's a day to honour the bravery of all who fought, regardless of which side they stood on, and to cherish their lives and memories. My goal is to promote understanding and reconciliation, fostering a future where we can remember the past without harbouring resentment.
