Twenty-five years ago today, the ASRC was founded. What began as a small community determined to support people seeking asylum has grown into a home of hope, safety and belonging for thousands of refugees and people seeking asylum.

Did you know the same Federal Court that decided #Djokovic fate today actually has no power to free the 70 refugees detained for last 9 years. That’s because we have allowed the Immigration Minister & he alone to decide their fate & play god. That should disgust & horrify us all.

Dear media, while you are reporting on #Djokovic being detained at the Park Hotel Prison can you please also mention the 33 refugee men that have been detained for 9 years now, that are also there. Half of who got COVID there. Men who were served maggots in their dinner last week

That Australian courts have the power to free #djokovic from detention in 30 minutes but have been stripped of the power to free refugees detained for 9 years tells every Australian who cares to know that we have a bankrupted immigration system that must be completely overhauled.

If you suddenly have an interest in our border policies and think the treatment of #djokovic is shameful and you’re outraged we need to ask you where have you been the last two decades when it comes to the treatment of people seeking asylum?
  • user avatar
We’re not troubled a multimillionaire tennis player has had his visa canceled, we’re troubled that our Immigration Minister has more power than our courts, undermining our rule of law. If he can do this to #Djokovic what do you think he’s been doing to asylum seekers & refugees?
  • user avatar
Remember today. Remember that untouchable power @AlexHawkeMP used to cancel #Djokovic visa is a power he could have used to free the 70 refugees in 9 years of detention, grant 20,000 humanitarian places for Afghanistan & let Murugappan family go #hometobilo. He blocks all of it.

To #Djokovic fans outraged his visa has been cancelled again though he won before the courts, be outraged for 100s of refugees languishing in detention centres today because we allow a Minister to have god like powers that can can override our courts. The #refugees are the story.

Remember long after #Djokovic is allowed to leave the Park Hotel Prison there will be men his age with his dreams and hopes still there. Men beginning soon their 10th year in immigration detention Men who have broken no law Men we accept are refugees Let us not forget them
  • user avatar
#Djokovic is on a flight back home to freedom and safety. Tomorrow refugees across Australia will awaken to their 3,000th plus day in detention. We cannot forget them. We must stand with them. Speak up. Pressure our local MPs & make this an election issue for this government.
  • user avatar
If you’re suddenly shocked that a person can win their case in the courts as #Djokovic has done today and yet the Minister can still if they want cancel their visa, then where have you been the last decade when they’ve done this to hundreds of refugees & people seeking asylum?
  • user avatar
We will say it again. @AlexHawkeMP you have the power to free the refugees held at Park Hotel Prison. 9 years already lost We are ready to help every one of these men find accommodation. We will provide them with food and aid. All you need to do is free them. #Djokovic

If you are feeling outraged like us that there are more than 30 human beings entering their 9th year of detention at the Park Hotel Prison know that @karenandrewsmp and @AlexHawkeMP with a strike of a pen can free them all. Call their offices on Monday and ask them why they won’t
