We represent 96% of train drivers, but there are limits…

Dear Extinction Rebellion, The Tube & all modes of public transport are part of the solution to climate change, not the problem. Can we kindly suggest you stick to protesting against those who create the problem. Not our industry, members + hard working commuters. Many thanks.

This is a lie. Our members are not taking any unofficial action, and we are not stopping anyone working. This rubbish puts our members at risk of abuse and assault.
📢 UNOFFICIAL STRIKES: Passengers using Avanti West services should expect disruption today. Archaic rules from 1919 mean working on rest days is voluntary. Unions now stopping drivers volunteering - causing misery for public & staff who won't get paid. We MUST modernise rail.

We utterly condemn Transport Secretary Grant Shapps' plans to curtail the right to strike on public transport. Not only is withdrawing your labour a human right, but this proposal is almost certain to make industrial relations worse, not better. Thread 👇

ASLEF members at 12 train companies have voted overwhelmingly to continue strike action - ballots were returned with an average 93% “Yes” vote – up on the very high figure last time – and an average turnout of 85%, showing that members are in this for the long haul.

Following yesterday's Supreme Court ruling, ASLEF is clear, we stand with the trans community

We stand in #solidarity with all teachers and school staff. Nobody should be forced to work in unsafe conditions. The government must listen to school staff and do the right thing. #MakeSchoolsSafe

    Replying to @ASLEFunion
One more time for the benefit of @grantshapps. Sunday forming part of the working week has been ASLEF policy for decades. If you want a reliable seven day a week service: Employ. Enough. Train. Drivers.

🚨NEW 🚨 We have received a pay offer from the Department for Transport in respect of our national dispute. It is a three-year pay deal (at 5%, 4.75% and 4.5%) with no strings. This will now be put to a member referendum.
Mick Whelan, General Secretary, said: “We are pleased that we finally have a new Labour government – that listens and wants to make the railway work for staff, passengers and the taxpayer.

“The offer is a fair offer, without a land grab for our terms & conditions. We will put it to members with a recommendation for them to accept.”

For the avoidance of doubt, train drivers stand in #solidarity with *all* workers seeking fair pay and a fair deal at work.

Rail staff have worked throughout this pandemic to make sure the network could serve the public. We've worked day in, day out to keep our railway as safe as possible for passengers and staff. For an MP to get on a train knowing she has Covid-19 is both dangerous and disgraceful.
