Palestine is a climate issue. I find the criticism the Greta gets hysterical and a mere cheap attempt at discrediting her coming from a group of adults who offer no solutions.
I’m so glad you asked. The projected emissions from the first 60 days of the war were greater than the annual emissions of 20 individual countries and territories. (A multimodal snapshot of GHG emissions from the Israel Gaza conflict, ssrn.com)
Morale is really low in the WB. I was on FT with my cousins and I mentioned that my husband and daughter went to a fundraiser for Palestine. One of my cousins said ما ضلش فلسطين (there’s no more Palestine). I know he didn’t mean it but…1/
you can see the depression on their faces and hear it in their voices. He spoke of the extreme restrictions, the land theft in almost every part of the WB, and jacked up prices on almost everything. The convo left me really depressed w/ a feeling that we’re not doing enough.2/2
I failed to add that in the same call, he gave the phone to his adorable 4 year old son and asked him to tell me about his new school he’ll be attending in the Fall. They’re still looking for a better future. We are full of hope and resilience.
Positive ☀️❤️ post: My kid is attending a journalism camp this summer and she was tasked to write a story about a topic that matters to her. Of course, it was about Palestine and the current events but she was hesitant to share worrying about negative comments and 1/2
disapproval from the teachers. The lead teacher in her class sensed her hesitancy and asked her to share. The same teacher came back the next day with a Shirt that says Jews for Palestine ❤️/2
I’m going to point out that your comment “she's a cute young woman who looks like a child” is problematic in the same sense as some male critics of her did in the past. This infantilization of Greta is used to signal emotionality and subsequently discredit her activism.
