- Happy birthday to Assata Shakur! Assata Olugbala Shakur is a former member of BLA and BPP. After serving time for allegedly killing a state trooper, she escaped from prison. She has since been granted political asylum in Cuba. In 1987, she published Assata: An Autobiography.
