We tracked down the vehicle believed to be involved in a recent murder of a Muslim man in Albuquerque. The driver was detained and he is our primary suspect for the murders. We will update the media later this afternoon.

- APD has arrested Solomon Peña for the recent shootings at local lawmakers’ homes. Peña, an unsuccessful legislative candidate in the 2022 election, is accused of conspiring with, and paying four other men to shoot at the homes of 2 county commissioners and 2 state legislators.
- Now that the campaign season is over, I want to clear up the claims about Albuquerque’s crime stats. Over 5 years, overall, property and violent crime are down, thanks to the officers, detectives and professionals throughout APD.
- I am a native of Taos, a lifelong hunter and I own many guns. I am also a responsible gun owner who supports @TallCypress safe storage act. I urge senators to pass this important public safety measure. Listen to victims and their families.
- This is the fourth time in the last several weeks that offenders fired guns at police. If these criminals are brazen enough to shoot at our officers, they are a danger to the community. This has to stop.
- Officers Verbeck and Eichel who have been in the hospital since Thursday are both doing well. We are encouraged as they are both awake and speaking. Thank you to the community for the continued support, and for sending well wishes to our officers.
- We lost a dedicated member of the APD family today. Officer Bianca Quintana died while off-duty in the South Valley. @BCSONM is investigating her tragic death. Everyone at APD extends our most sincere condolences to her family.
- I am saddened to announce that one of our police cadets, Taylor Hagan, was the victim of an apparent murder-suicide last night. We deal with these tragedies often, but it hits home when someone in our family is a victim. My sincere condolences go out to her family and loved ones.
- I am deeply concerned about the shootings that have occurred at the residences of some of our elected officials. Our detectives have collected evidence from all four incidents and we are working as quickly as possible with our federal partners to analyze the evidence.
- Our detectives arrested a suspect for the murder of 11-year-old Froylan Villegas. With help from the public, investigators determined this was a case of mistaken identity. These cowards thought they were tough. They killed an innocent child.
- Retired PSD Lex passed away today. He served with honor and upon retirement lived the remainder of his life with his handler, Sergeant Sandoval. @ABQPOLICE K9 handlers generally care for their dogs long after their careers. Rest In Peace Lex. Thank you for your service.
