Just marked a decade back in Australia after nearly a decade as a foreign correspondent and, have to say, feel like crying for my country. Right wing conservatism has sapped the life out of Australia, stunting its humanity, ambition and potential. Hard to be optimistic.

Gardasil vaccine was discovered by two medical experts at Queensland University in Australia. It was a huge scientific breakthrough for preventing a silent killer of young women. Kennedy is a dangerous, ignorant fool who threatens the health of women. This is Trumpism!
RFK Jr.: "Gardasil is probably the single worst mass vaccine that we've ever seen. This vaccine targets millions of preteens and teens for whom the risk of dying from cervical cancer is zero. Nobody in their right mind would ever take this vaccine if they actually read the

The culture wars have poisoned the Australian media. It is now almost impossible to find reporting on the Covid crisis which is not influenced by a political agenda of one kind or another. An historic failure by editors, producers, presenters and reporters.

The great thing about the best political commentstors - Oakes, Grattan, Lyneham, Carleton et al - was you never knew how they voted. Treated both sides equally robustly. Too many now wear their colours on their sleeves.

So much anger about taxpayers’ money being lavished on aborigines. So little anger about rich Australians paying no tax!

Australia is relying on the Astra Zeneca vaccine because it does not have the capacity to produce modern mRNA vaccines. Surely, a disastrous example of our failure invest in and keep up with vital technological innovation.

In Canberra this morning, had to wait for a motorcade of police bikes, lights flashing, escorting an ancient black Rolls Royce containing GG "whatsisname". Looked utterly absurd and anachronistic. Why do we still put up with this rubbish? Please bring on the republic.

I think I just heard the Prime Minister question the deputy Opposition leader, Richard Marles' patriotism to justify not briefing the Opposition on the AUKUS deal. An incredibly serious charge.

I spent years sitting in the Press Gallery in Question Time. I think this is government at the ugliest I have ever seen.

Why do News Ltd papers write about Covid as though deaths are just a statistic whereas freedom is a deeply felt need which must be met.

Been thinking as I have scanned the media in recent weeks that the terms of the public debate in Australia are now almost entirely set by the politicians with the media following rather than leading/holding to account. Very bad for democracy.

I have covered the careers of 10 Australian prime ministers. It is hard not to conclude that Scott Morrison is the shallowest, most short-sighted and most self-pitying of them all.
Wow. So the PM reveals in his press conf that he’s across someone at @SkyNewsAust having an HR complaint against them after a toilet incident, but in 2yrs he was NEVER told by anyone in his own office or @lindareynoldswa about a rape on her ministerial couch? Really? #auspol

Amazing how many people on this website are fans of someone 99.9 per cent of Australians have never heard of!
Shattered. Heartbroken. Charlie was one of the very best; brave, decent, brilliant & with a rare gift for persuading young minds. His influence was enormous. RIP Charlie.

There is a much bigger thing going on here. Hillsong (Pentecostalism) had taken deep root in the Liberal Party, with potentially big implications of Australia's future. For the ABC to treat it as a normal church is a huge journalistic failure. Watch out Australia!
Why indeed ? Hillsong is a business, a money-making enterprise based on luring the gullible into a cult and taking their money. A church it is not.
