Nostalgia, Unedited

How do you decide what to keep?

Personally, I ask myself one question:
Does this add value to my life right now?

Notice those last two words: right now.

We cling for two reasons:
the past we miss,
or the future we fear.

Clutter is just nostalgia, unedited.

Keeping everything is how we forget what matters.
Because memory doesn’t live in things—it lives through them.

I don’t need every book I’ve read—
but I keep the few I return to regularly.

I don’t need every gift I’ve ever received—
but I keep the ones I still enjoy.

I don’t need every piece of clothing I’ve owned—
but I keep the ones I reach for again and again.

With sentimental items, I keep the best—not the most. A few meaningful objects can honor a life better than mausoleum of dead nostalgia.

You can’t treasure ten thousand things.
But you can cherish a few.
