Higher education is a key driver of social mobility in the UK. However, while over the last 25 years there has been a substantial increase in the number of young people going to university, access gaps between students from lower socio-economic groups and their more advantaged peers have barely shifted.

Our research, covering both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, looks at the challenges this group of young people are facing, from initial access to gaps in their experience when at university. And our flagship Summer School programmes provide immersive academic experiences and tailored university guidance directly to students.

  • Our partnership model includes access to tailored impact reports, with data including student demographics, application conversion rates, and longitudinal tracking through UCAS and HEAT.
  • Our partners can also access best practice forums, convened by the Sutton Trust, bringing together WP coordinators and senior leaders to share insights and drive strategic and operational change.
