How We Can Help

About Scottish Families

Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs is a national charity which supports anyone affected by someone else’s alcohol/drug use in Scotland. We give information and support family members with confidence, communication, and general well-being, and we link them to our services and local support services. We also help people recognise and understand the importance of looking after themselves.

We have many local and national Family Support Services. Our national Family Support Services are HelplineBereavement Support, and our one-to-one Ripple Family Support Service. Our Local Family Support Services include one-to-one and group support in East DunbartonshireForth ValleyFife, and Inverclyde. If you live outside of these areas, we may still be able to link you to local support in your area.

We are here to support you if you are affected by someone else’s alcohol or drug use. We can chat, offer listening support and information, and link you to our services or local services. Contact our Helpline on 08080 10 10 11helpline@sfad.org.uk or using the chat on our site.

Our support team are a small group of advisors who aim to give an individualised response to every enquiry as quickly as possible. We experience a high volume of calls and work hard to answer every one of them. If we do not answer your call, please leave a voicemail and one of our advisors will get back to you.

If a Scottish Families advisor is not available and you feel this cannot wait, please contact our friends at Know the Score who can assist with specific support. Their Helpline is available till 9pm at 0800 587 5879. If you or someone else is at immediate risk or you need immediate help, please contact 999, Police Scotland on 101 or the Samaritans on 116 123.

Fundraising

Alcohol and drug use affects families from every community in Scotland, but much of this harm remains hidden from view. Families feel isolated, ashamed, stigmatised and often don’t know where to turn. Scottish Families is there when they need us. All donations, no matter how small, help us carry out our work and reach more families.
