PCS does Flow Control Differently
With its unique features, the Equilibar control valve is capable of finding the required pressure balance instantly, without friction, and at very high precision. Our valves are designed to handle high pressure drops and offer an extremely large flow rangeability, enabling the handling of extremely low flow rates at high pressure drops, and doing so at high precision.
The actuation of the valve happens by modulating the pilot pressure at the dome of the dome-loaded valve, pushing and releasing a diaphragm on and from multiple orifices. The result is a force balance between the reference (dome) pressure and the pressure upstream of the dome-loaded valve. How does this apply to flow control? Well, a characteristic of the Coriolis sensor is the pressure drop over the long and narrow measuring tube and thus a significant pressure drop. When applying an Equilibar back pressure regulator for the purpose of flow control, the pressure drop is put to your advantage: When an increasing flow results in an increasing pressure drop over the flow sensor, the reference pressure needs to decrease accordingly. The pressure drop over the sensor is used to create a control bandwidth for the reference pressure, enabling to exactly regulate the – fluctuating – reference pressure that is required to achieve constant flow through the flow control set-up.
More Materials Options
Most Coriolis flow meters are available in different wetted materials. But for control valves, finding the right materials often is more challenging. Good to know: Equilibar dome-loaded valves are available in almost any material! PCS can thus offer you flow control solutions, even for a process where the media can only see SS316, Hastelloy, or PTFE – we customize each flow solution according to your requirements!
Some media are difficult to handle, which can create additional challenges in flow control. Equilibar control valves solve that challenge through the unique benefit that the media is not in contact with the instrument itself. This enables optimal precision in any application, regardless of the use of aggressive media.
