Electronic power steering has become the norm in today's vehicles. Currently however, electric racks cannot easily be rebuilt or serviced. So far, the only option has been a complete replacement at a cost of $1000s of dollars and requiring specialized tools and equipment.
Common failure mode
Among the top failure modes for current electric rack and pinion assemblies is belt failure. Like all rubber components in a vehicle, the drive belt in these units is subject to wear, tear, and the elements. And if this simple rubber belt fails, it used to be game over for the entire rack and pinion.
Edelmann Electric Rack and Pinion Drive Belt Replacement Kits provide everything needed to replace the damaged parts and save the original unit.

EPS Torque Sensor Replacement
The torque sensor is one of the most critical components in an electric power steering system. Mounted along the steering shaft and spanning a small torsion bar, it continuously measures how much force you are applying to the steering wheel and in which direction — feeding that data to the EPS control module to deliver precise, responsive assist. When a torque sensor fails, drivers often experience uneven steering effort, an intermittent EPS warning light, or a complete loss of power assist.
