PLCopen defined Training Guidelines for training centers as a resource for professional training institutes, businesses, and universities that aspire to achieve the status of a PLCopen Certified Training Center.

Becoming a PLCopen Certified Training Center offers several key benefits:

  • Global Recognition: Certification by PLCopen is a mark of excellence recognized by industry leaders and employers worldwide. It assures that your training programs adhere to the highest standards in PLC programming education.
  • Curriculum Enhancement: By aligning with the PLCopen Compliance List, your institution ensures that its curriculum is comprehensive, up-to-date, and relevant to the latest developments in industrial automation.
  • Market Competitiveness: Certified training centers are positioned as leaders in the field, attracting top talent and providing a competitive edge in the education market.
  • Industry Partnerships: Certification fosters closer ties with industry partners, enhancing opportunities for collaboration, research, and student placements.

Certification is split into different levels to create a more flexible base for institutions and training centers to create their own curriculum that complies to one or more of the levels of certification. The four different levels of certification are:

  • Basic Certification: Covers foundational knowledge of IEC 61131-3, including but not limited to essential programming skills, understanding of the models, and common elements such as data types, variables, and program organization units.
  • Motion Certification: Focuses on the principles and applications of motion control within PLC programming, including the use of PLCopen motion function blocks and the integration of motion control with logical sequences.
  • Safety Certification: Concentrates on safety-critical aspects of PLC programming, covering the PLCopen Safety Concepts and Function Blocks, the application of safety-related function blocks, and the design and validation of safe automation systems.
  • Advanced Programming Certification: Addresses advanced topics such as object-oriented programming (OOP), creation and management of function block libraries.

Training certification is exclusively for PLCopen members (voting members and educational institutes). The charges are € 500. A certification is valid for a period of five years.
