How did the PCA get a Porsche?

Back in 2020, Vu Nguyen, PCA’s Executive Director, was contacted by Philip Cerniglia, a 20-year member, who wanted to donate his 1990 911 Carrera 4 to the club. The member enjoyed the experiences he had with the PCA as well as the content that PCA was putting out. He hoped that they would be able to use the 911 to create even more content.

What type of 911 is this?

It is a 1990 911 Carrera 4 coupe in Guards Red with beige interior. It came with a partial leather interior but no sunroof. It was equipped with 16” Design 90 wheels, five-speed transmission, air conditioning, and aftermarket radio.

Did PCA show off the 911 anywhere?

Its debut was at the 2021 Werks Reunion Amelia Island where it was placed next to the PCA Store. The following day, it was displayed at the Amelia Island Cars and Coffee at the Ritz Carlton. It was also shown at the 2021 Porsche Parade in French Lick, Indiana in the Hospitality Room. Later in the year, it was shown at the PCA National Office Open House. It was also on display at the 2021 SportsCar Together Fest at the Indianapolis Speedway. In 2022, it took a back seat to the 911 Classic Club Coupe and was not shown except for a sighting at the PCA HQ Open House. In 2023, it would appear again at Werks Reunion as well as the Amelia Island Cars and Coffee.

Did club members vote on the fate of the 911?

Yes, for a one-year period from May of 2021 to May of 2022, club members could vote on what would be done to the 911. It was during this time the name of this endeavor was called Projekt964. Members could vote to either restore it back to stock, turn it into a Safari 911, or modify it to resemble an RS type of 911. In the end, the RS build won.

What’s been done to Projekt964?

Here’s the list:

Windshield Replacement and Rust Repair. EuroPros Collision Center in Gaithersburg, MD removed and repaired a rusted area just below the windshield. Porsche Classic provided a factory fresh windshield. EuroPros did a phenomenal job of matching the paint in the repaired area.

New Fuel Lines and Fuel Tank. After having the Porsche 911 at the shop for an initial inspection, it was determined that due to the fact that the car sat for so long, the fuel lines and fuel tank needed to be replaced. Porsche Classic sent us replacement parts and Ralph’s Auto Service in Owings Mills, MD installed both items.

Underbody Dry Ice Cleaning was performed by At Speed Motors in Elkridge, Maryland. They used over 1,500 pounds of dry ice to remove decades of caked on dirt and grime. The results were quite impressive and brought the car back to almost new.

At Speed Motors installed brand new front 964 Turbo brakes and rotors as well as 993 rear calipers and rotors which substantially improved braking for Projeckt964. Porsche Classic provided all these parts which also included new factory brakes lines as well.

At Speed Motors also recharged the factory air conditioning and to the surprise of everyone, it still worked. So now the 911 has nice, cool air conditioning for its time out in California.

Here is our last video of Projekt 964, before it went to Avant Garde in Arizona to be prepped for sale on Bring a Trailer.
