Matt Parker

I am an ex-highschool-maths-teacher and current stand-up comedian and mathematics author. In addition to my occasional appearances on the BBC, Discovery and Numberphile (all of which I love and will keep doing), I believe that my own regular videos and the online community which nucleates around them are a valuable resource for getting people into mathematics and keeping them there. If you believe that as well, you can help make it happen. Mathematics videos on youtube are important because they inspire proto-mathematicians who are otherwise being ground-down at school. And they give people bored at work something to watch during lunch. But making good videos is time-consuming and expensive. Thanks to the incredible support of my Patreon people the Stand-up Maths channel (which started as a hobby with cobbled-together kit) is now a sustainable part of my life. And the more support I get: the more of my life it takes over. With every new supporter I can get better equipment, dedicate more time and ultimately do more ambitious projects. But as always, watching and sharing the videos is the best support, so don't feel peer-pressured into giving me money you don't have. The videos will always be free for everyone, and with as few ads as possible.

Free

The "irrational support" level. As well as patreon updates and high fives* you get regular videos of me talking about recent videos, answering questions emailed in by irrational supporters and deleted scenes from my videos. I’ll also email you a christmas card once a year. You can print it out at any scale you fancy. But if you print it with the wrong aspect ratio I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN. *See me at a show or public event and shout "high five" while holding up a hand. Please have the necessary paperwork to prove your patreon support in the other hand.

Irrational Support

The "overly-irrational support" level. Honestly, this is just for all the people who go on about how τ &gt; π. Aka 'people who are wrong'. If you give me tau dollars/month, you get exactly the same as the pi people but occasionally I will email you a new photo of me looking disappointed with you.

Overly-Irrational Support

The "statistically significant support" level. Now you're making a difference! Everything from the irrational level plus I'll sign and post a physical christmas card to you. I'll also send you a birthday email whenever your age increments*. *For security reasons, I suggest giving me a fake birthday which is close enough to your real one. I will be emailing a photo of me holding a sign saying "happy birthday &lt;&lt;YOUR NAME&gt;&gt;" so maybe don't give a fake name as well.

Statistically Significant Support

The "transcendental support" level. You are officially the wind beneath my wings. You are why I can spend my days making mathematics videos. As a token sign of my exponential appreciation, you can have everything from the statistically-significant level plus I'll post you a signed birthday card, paste your name in the description of my videos on a random basis, and I'll put you on the guest list for any of my live shows*. Should we ever be at the same event, I'll go out of my way to find you and say hello. *If I'm the main performer at a public show which is not sold-out and you ask in advance: I'll put your name on the guest list for you++.

Transcendental Support

The "giving something back" level. At this point you don't care about rewards; you've probably made a lot of money using mathematics and now you want to give something back. Well: tough. I'm still showing my appreciation. (You get everything from below and if we have any spare Maths Gear stuff around the office I may post it your way.) You legend. You're directly making mathematics more accessible to people all over the planet.
