Hi! I’m Andy Mort, a somewhat nomadic songwriter and slow coach.In 2004, I started producing and releasing music under the name <a href="https://andymort.bandcamp.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Atlum Schema</a>. I make alternative indie music and naturally write "sad" songs to process and explore life's loves, losses, and absurdities.I share stories, artwork, and philosophically playful musings that underpin my lifelong creative practice. Through videos, podcasts, and coaching, I love supporting, encouraging, and inspiring gentle rebels on their creative path.Home is No(w)here is my current project. It revolves around an album of 13 songs I wrote towards the end of 2022. So far, I have released several standalone tracks (<a href="https://www.andymort.com/music/sleep-it-off" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Sleep it Off</a>, <a href="https://www.andymort.com/music/tin-soldier/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Tin Soldier</a>, <a href="https://andymort.com/music/raise-a-glass" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Raise a Glass</a>).The album has made slower progress than I initially hoped. I've been waiting for my vision for the project to become more apparent and for the money to fund the mixing and mastering. I felt the vision land as I moved into 2025. While I don't have a clear sense of how it will look "at the end" (I never do!), I know what I want to explore and how I will approach it. Patreon is at the heart of this plan.I am exclusively combining Home is No(w)here with Patreon to grow an exploratory creative project centred around the music. It serves as my blog, a private personal podcast, a platform to share my music, artwork, and poetry, and a space to host conversations with other songwriters, artists, and individuals with different perspectives on home.I would love to complete the album this year (2025), which will require growing my Patreon. I anticipate it being a little uncomfortable, but that's OK, I'm rather excited about the whole thing!<h2 style="">Why Home is No(w)here?</h2>It started when I played with the words "home" and "nowhere" in my journal one morning. Staying with friends, I felt deeply at home, yet I wasn't. Was it because I had no home to return to? No place of my own.<h2 style="">Home is now here. Home is nowhere.</h2>These phrases have been travelling with me. Like love, home is an ungraspable concept when you try to define it. It slips through the fingers. Home is steadfast, dynamic, reliable, complex, simple, and ever-changing. I see this when I move around friends and family who invite me into their homes to stay for chunks of time. I notice change amidst a steady essence. Is it the place? The people? The pursuits?I love these questions, and I imagine this project will lead me to all the right answers... just joking. I don't expect answers (there are none), only more questions.
