Preferred Strategic Planning Method
Northspan’s preferred strategic planning method uses proven facilitation methods to help clients define clear strategic directions and identify realistic, achievable action steps. While each engagement is tailored to the needs and scope of the client, this shared approach guides our work across projects.
Each engagement begins with Northspan working collaboratively with the group to design a planning scope and present a proposal. Once approved, our preferred strategic planning method follows seven core phases.
Seven Phases of Strategic Planning
- Preparation and Design
Establishing the planning structure, participants, and context for the work. - Practical Vision
Defining a focused and actionable vision for the future. - Underlying Contradictions
Identifying tensions, challenges, and barriers that must be addressed to move forward. - Strategic Directions
Setting clear priorities that guide decision‑making and resource allocation. - Vision, Mission, and Core Values
Refining foundational statements that align purpose, culture, and strategy. - Focused Implementation
Translating strategy into concrete actions, responsibilities, and timelines. - Quarterly and Annual Evaluation and Planning Workshops
Supporting accountability, adjustment, and long‑term progress through ongoing evaluation.
