About the San Antonio Public Library Director

Sukrit Goswami
Career
Sukrit Goswami was appointed Library Director of the San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) on January 15, 2025, by the Library Board of Trustees and joined the organization on March 3.
Most recently, Sukrit was the Director of Haverford Township Free Library (HTFL) in Pennsylvania, where he led transformational projects, including a $22 million renovation and expansion and the launch of the library’s first bookmobile. Sukrit previously served as the Executive Director of Montgomery County Library & Information Network Consortium (MCLINC) in Pennsylvania, a consortium of 16 member libraries with 32 locations. Prior to that Sukrit was a Library Director, Director of Teen Programming, Volunteer Coordinator, and Reference Librarian in upstate New York. Throughout his career he has worked at all levels of library service. His library career began as a Library Assistant at University at Albany’s Science Library while he was pursuing his undergraduate degree.
As Library Director for SAPL, Sukrit is responsible for:
- Delivering library services to approximately 1.9 million residents in San Antonio and Bexar County, Texas.
- Providing management oversight for the library system, consisting of the downtown Central Library, 27 branch libraries, a partnership library at Roosevelt High School, and the Kampmann Portal at the Briscoe Western Art Museum.
- Leading a team of over 560 dedicated library staff members who strive to provide outstanding service to the San Antonio community.
Professional Background & Involvement
- Leadership & Administration: Extensive experience in directing multiple libraries in New York and Pennsylvania, as well as leading a large consortium in Pennsylvania.
- Advocacy & Intellectual Freedom: Past President and current trustee of the Freedom to Read Foundation (FTRF), actively defending First Amendment rights and fighting censorship.
- Innovation & Growth: Spearheaded major capital projects, secured over $6.75 million in state and federal grants, and implemented strategic technology initiatives to enhance library services.
- Served on key American Library Association (ALA) committees, including diversity, information technology policy, and intellectual freedom.
- Frequent presenter at national and regional conferences on library leadership, governance, and emerging technologies.

Personal
Sukrit and his partner have a 12-year-old Weimaraner, and they are proud uncles to two wonderful nephews.
