About

Mudito is a social enterprise working to build safer futures across public and digital systems.

Safety is not a niche concern. It is a condition of ordinary life, shaped by design, and unevenly distributed. The routes people take and avoid. The apps they trust and the ones that have failed them. The institutions they approach with confidence and the ones where they negotiate every step. The places where the body relaxes and the places where it does not.

We work with organisations to understand how people experience risk, care, and dignity across the systems they move through, from platforms and public spaces to institutions and care environments. We identify where harm is being built in, where it is being overlooked, and what it would take to build differently. Then we help organisations do that work.

Who we are

We work with institutions, platforms, and communities to understand how safety is actually experienced by the people who depend on their systems. Across every context we work in, a consistent pattern appears: safety is assumed rather than designed. It is treated as a background condition rather than a primary one. And when it breaks down, it breaks down at exactly the moment it matters most, when someone seeks help, when a decision must be made quickly, when responsibility is unclear.

These are rarely awareness problems. They are design problems. Our role is to study those conditions carefully, trace where responsibility sits and where it shifts, and translate what we learn into approaches organisations can use: frameworks, tools, and system improvements that change how safety is built and sustained over time.

How we work

Mudito works across ethnographic inquiry, participatory practice, digital anthropology, and futures methods to understand how safety is built into, or left out of, the systems people depend on. Each engagement begins with fieldwork: conversations with the people whose safety is at stake, close reading of how systems perform under real conditions, and mapping of where assumptions and lived experience diverge.

That diagnostic work informs the design of frameworks, tools, and interventions that can be tested, adapted, and embedded over time. We work at the level of the system, not just the surface, because safety that holds only under ideal conditions is not safety at all.

Why we exist

Safety failures are rarely dramatic. They accumulate quietly, in the gaps between policy and practice, between what a system was designed for and what it actually does to the people who use it. A transit network that works for most people but forecloses movement for others after dark. A platform that assumed a particular kind of user and left everyone else to navigate around that assumption. An institution whose processes were built for ideal behaviour and break down under the pressure of real lives.

Mudito exists to notice those failures early, to understand what they reveal about how systems are actually functioning, and to help design responses that build safety in rather than bolt it on. We are interested not only in how environments function today but in how they will perform as conditions change, as cities shift between analogue and digital, as care systems are redesigned, as the terrain people navigate becomes more complex and more consequential.
