The heating and cooling sector is constantly evolving, meaning that the MEMA Technical Education Center is continually refining and expanding our course offerings.

We have a selection of short training sessions on various topics. These classes are opportunities for you to develop your skills and bring knowledge back to your company.

This one-day hands-on course covers the regulations and safe handling of flammable refrigerants, including A2L and hydrocarbon refrigerants. As the HVACR industry evolves, more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly refrigerants that are mildly flammable are being used. Therefore, additional training will be needed to use them safely.

Airflow Calculations, Duct Sizing, and Design is a one-day workshop tailored to meet the evolving rebate requirements for whole-home heat pump installations. Learn how ducted systems can satisfy these standards while gaining practical skills to convert BTUs to CFM and accurately size supply and return air ducts. The course also covers dual-fuel and multi-zone systems, emphasizing effective return air strategies. Each participant will receive the ACCA Manual D duct design guide, a valuable resource for use during and after the class. Perfect for professionals looking to stay ahead in the industry!

Delivery Technician training prepares techs to safely deliver propane fuel to residential and commercial customers. It also prepares students for the Maine state Delivery Technician Authority.

Please note: To complete your delivery technician training, you will need to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with hazmat, tanker, and air brakes endorsements.

Build on your Basic Electricity knowledge with this hands-on, two-day course. Learn to confidently use a multimeter, ensuring proper tester ratings and testing procedures. Dive into reading and interpreting electrical diagrams, including component and ladder diagrams, using materials from the ESCO Institute.

Heat Pump Service Procedures is a two-day advanced workshop designed for experienced mini-split heat pump (MSHP) installers who want to expand their skills in servicing and repairing all MSHP brands. With the growing demand for MSHP maintenance, this course focuses on diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and conducting proper cleaning and mold removal. Participants will engage in hands-on lab work, troubleshooting live equipment using AC Service Tech training materials, videos, and workbooks. This is not an entry level course. Technicians should have a solid understanding of the Installation and Operation of MSHP before attending this class.

This is a non brand specific training using materials from A/C Service Tech. Each student will receive a training manual and workbook. However, this is a hands-on workshop, and technicians will need to bring their own tools to perform work in the lab. The tools required can be found here under the column A/C/R.

Hydronics is a three-day course that provides a complete overview of hydronic heating systems, combining electrical controls with piping, sizing, and system preparation.

Students will gain practical skills in wiring and control strategies using leading brands such as Hydrolevel, Resideo, Tekmar, and Taco, including best practices for zoning with valves versus pumps. Each participant receives a Taco Wiring Guide and manufacturer manuals for all controls covered.

The course also delivers in-depth training on piping strategies for non-condensing oil-fired boilers and gas-condensing boilers. Topics include piping layouts, air removal, and water treatment, with expert guidance from Caleffi Idronics manuals. Students will also learn system preparation techniques, including the operation of flush carts, ensuring efficient and reliable installations.

Designed for technicians looking to advance their hydronic expertise, this training equips participants with the knowledge and resources needed for high-quality installation, service, and maintenance.

Large Equipment Connection & Service is a Maine Fuel Board Approved Training course for appliances greater than 500,000 btus (commercial equipment). It also prepares students for the state Large Equipment Authority exam.

This two-day hands-on course immerses students in MTEC’s state-of-the-art Liquid Propane training lab, featuring an operational vaporizer, pump set, meter, and bulk plant piping system. Learn to install and service pumps, vaporizers, and liquid meters while mastering flaring burner setup and operation. The course, built on PERC materials, includes practical training on liquid propane piping, system startup, and troubleshooting. Students will also review NFPA codes and requirements for bulk plants and dispensers to ensure compliance. Perfect for those looking to enhance their skills in liquid propane systems!

Plant Operator prepares technicians to safely monitor, control, and maintain equipment used to store, process, and distribute liquified petroleum gas (LPG). The course also covers the codes and safety required to obtain a Plant Operator Authority (NFP#58 Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code). This is course Maine Fuel Board Approved.

Solid Fuel License Prep is a one-day code review test prep that will also review how to install Solid Fuel units with Liquid Fuels Units. This class will cover NFPA 211 and the Maine Fuel Board Codes to prepare for the State Licensing Exam. Master Oilburner Technicians are approved to take this exam without field Supervision.
