I have been on the front line of Australia’s freedom movement since August 2020 when I founded ‘Reignite Democracy’, which is not as active nowadays.
I hit the international stage after spending 22 days in prison for refusing to sign draconian bail conditions after being charged with incitement. After 22 days, I won my appeal to have the bail conditions amended. My ‘crime’ was publishing an anti-lockdown protest poster on social media. Yes, you read that correctly.
I self-published my book, ‘Cell 22‘, in late 2023 and read and published the audiobook in late 2024.
I toured Europe in 2023, Australia in 2024 and New Zealand in 2026 . I met with over 200 community groups and about 10,000 individual freedom-lovers.
Recently I represented myself in court against the Victorian Government and Police, accusing them of unlawfully arresting me. I won the case, but was slapped with a huge costs order. I recently appealed that in March 2026 and am waiting for the decision. Read the full story

What else is Monica doing?
I use the profits from this shop to fund all my activism work, including ongoing court cases. Without this shop, it would be impossible to fund all the different projects and campaigns I’m involved in.
Current court cases;
- Civil case against Daniel Andrews and Brett Sutton. I originally fundraised for a private prosecution. I had to change the strategy, so I have refunded all the donations. We are pursuing a civil case instead. I will be spending my own money and time to pursue this case.
- My unlawful arrest appeal. You can read about it here. I am currently waiting for a court date. I include this as an activism project because what happens in courts sets precedents that affects us all. The fact I won my case, but they punished me with a huge court debt, is absolutely unnecessary in my opinion, and no one should be punished for having the guts to take the government to court, and win! That’s why this is so importnat to me. Justice should be so expensive!
My activism through ‘Reignite Democracy’ and my own platforms ‘Monica Smit’;
- Raise the Colours – Operation ‘raise the Colours’ is inspired by the UK campaign that started recently and has been gaining momentum
- Keep Cash Alive – Is an ongoing campaign that has been very successful worldwide. It hasn’t been as relevant lately but when they try to take cash away from us (and we know they will)…that’s when this type of camapign will be extremely useful.
- Cashmore – Is also about keeping cash alive. This has not gained much momentum yet, but again when they try to take cash away from us, this will blow up!
