Modes was developed by the Museum Documentation Association (MDA) who released the first version in 1987.
Modes was originally developed as the Museum Object Data Entry System.
Nowadays we prefer to call it ‘Modes’ because it can do so much more than data entry.
Currently nearly 800 organisations are using Modes. They are mostly in the UK.
