World Migratory Bird Day 2026

World Migratory Bird Day is officially celebrated on the second Saturday of May in Canada and the US, and the second Saturday of October in Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. However, every day is Bird Day, and you can celebrate birds and host events any day of the year!

In 2026, our conservation theme highlights the importance of community science (also known as citizen science) to migratory bird conservation. Throughout the year, we will share the ways that you can contribute your observations to support research locally, nationally,

and even globally. Stay tuned!!

Conservation Theme

In 2026, we will explore the many community science projects that help gather information about birds, their populations, and the factors that threaten to improve our ability to protect them and their habitats.

Art & featured species

Art has always been at the heart of World Migratory Bird Day, and in 2026, it remains a cornerstone of the celebration. This year, we’ve chosen seven migratory bird species to highlight how community science enhances our understanding of these birds and supports their conservation.

Artist

Brazilian artist Luisa Lacerda brings the focal bird species to life through stunning embroidery for the first time. Her intricate, detailed craftsmanship beautifully captures the essence of the theme, which will be celebrated throughout the year.

Social Media Packet

Promoting your World Migratory Bird Day event can be a daunting task, so we create a Social Media Packet that provides easy copy-and-paste posts, downloadable graphics, and other content that you can use on your social media accounts. Stay tuned for more information!
