3d projects

Before the days of generative AI, I learned 3D computer graphics by modeling, texturing, lighting, and compositing virtual environments. This was my first taste of the joy of creativity and technology. What I learned while making these environments plays a large part in how I approach my work today. I hope you enjoy them.

Kitchen, 2018

This piece was my first study of photo-realistic computer graphics. The goal of this project was for it to pass as a real photo. Despite the whole scene being created in a computer program.
Next time you watch a Pixar movie, pay attention to the blend of realistic materials and cartoon shapes. The surfaces look real, but everything's form is stylized. It's a beautiful combination.

Monument, 2016

This piece is based on concept art made by Andreas Rocha. I drew from Aztec architecture to style the focal structure.

Harold and the Butterfly, 2016

This piece was practice using photo scan technology. The rock used to make Harold's head is photo scanned from my yard, as are the two background trees. Inspired by the "Cardboard Man" series by Anton Tang.

"Matt is an up-and-coming UX talent & excellent candidate to augment a growing design team. In just a few short months, he demonstrated the ability to onboard quickly and make the necessary impacts. As a valued team player, he governed the design of four products collaborating closely with data analysts, developers, and product owners on ways to build trust and improve insights for our identified target audiences. In April 2022, he was a key contributor to an innovative award-winning entry for our company “Hack to the Future 4” event. Stakeholder
Rick Grambling

Co-founder of Resultlytics

"Matt is a gifted young designer.

Matt listens and seeks to understand foundational ideas before presenting his proposed solutions.

Matt takes direction and adds his own creative input. He doesn’t just do what is asked. He seeks to understand the objective and merges the request with his own perspective.

Matt is a sharp young talent and I would not hesitate to hire and make him an integral part of any software application design and development team."

Manager
Ines Hamadi

UX Designer at Apple

"Matt is a strong, competent UX/UI designer. He likes to understand others and always think critically. He has the skill to engage conversation, even when there is none. He is a UX researcher when he wants to solve the problems and a UI designer when he wants to show the solutions. I would love to work with him again!"

"I had a pleasure to work with Matt on a student project. It was a very nice experience both professionally and personally. Not only is Matt a strong designer that thinks critically, but he's also an excellent partner that listens and create a comfortable relaxed atmosphere. And my absolute favorite skill of Matt is that he is an 'out of the box' thinker. He tends to come with good fresh ideas and solutions that make a product better and more intuitive. I'd be happy to cross my professional paths with Matt again!"
