Kalli tak’Aran’s life was mapped out for her, and she was largely content to settle into its groove—until her nascent Reader talent destroyed everything. Now, pampered and indulged like every Reader trainee, she needs help adjusting.
Matthias Rodionwy, a Shadow trainee rescued from a slaver’s hold, had one last chance to avoid being sent to the Rim as infantry. Now that he’s resonated to the tak’Aran girl, he’s saved from that fate, and he should be overjoyed. But there are disturbing signs, even before they begin training.
THE RESISTANCE
Treachery and terrorism might reach even the ranks of the Readers. Some people want to watch the Combine burn—and Kalli tak’Aran, with her senatorial family connections and tenuous grasp on her new gifts, is perfect for their plans. Double agents, secret rendezvous, and a little danger can be exciting—until they become lethal, for the Combine has plans for Kalli as well. Readers are too precious to be expendable… but they can certainly be bait.
