Jemma Watts Photography

I have been passionate about photography for as long as I can remember. After I was given my first SLR camera when I was a teenager, I have been taking pictures of the world around me ever since. I became a professional photographer over fifteen years ago now and work alongside some of the most successful people in the food and interiors industry, in branding, publishing, PR and editorial.

Capturing images in a relaxed and natural style, I enjoy creating the narrative behind my photographs, whether that be a table of food, documenting a day out on a fishing boat, or a beautiful home. I love working to bring the client’s brief alive, listening to what is desired and producing an image that inspires and pleases. Ultimately, my mantra is to create beautiful, emotive images, that bring joy and satisfaction.

Food Photographer

I started out as a food photographer in London, and my work has taken me all over the world. I absolutely love to photograph food, there is so much more to it than people realise. The best feedback to get from my photos is to make people feel hungry! I am really inspired by the people I work with on these shoots and believe that we are all responsible for the success of the photograph. I have the pleasure of working with very talented food stylists, prop stylist and art directors.

Interiors Photographer

I started photographing Interiors purely because I love interiors! These include homes, architecture, creative businesses and all things that make a home a home. I shoot campaigns for homeware brands, features for magazines, design by interior designers and architects’ projects.

Photographing for Magazines, Design Agencies, Brands and Book Publishers

My work has featured in many top food and interiors magazines, including Real Homes, Jamie Oliver, House Beautiful, 91 Magazine, House and Home, KBB, 25 Beautiful Homes, The Simple Things, Mollie Makes, Olive Magazine, HomeStyle, Weight Watchers, and The Guardian Cook.

Some of the brand clients include Bailey’s, 3M, Hillary’s Blinds, Hillfarm Oils, Gressingham Ducks, Pinney’s of Orford and I have worked with agencies including AKQA and RGA, as well as many smaller independent agencies and businesses.

To date I have photographed seven cookbooks for a variety of publishers, including Penguin Books, Kyle Books, Hodder & Stoughton and Quarto Publishing.

Photography Workshops and Online Masterclasses

In recent years I’ve been running photography workshops and online masterclasses for small creative business owners. As social media has grown in popularity and business owners are increasingly taking photographs to post on the various social platforms or their Blogs, I now offer help in both the technical side of taking a photo and the creative aspect of keeping your visual identity on brand. Teaching photography is something that I really enjoy, more so than I thought I would!

Personal Photography Projects

When I’m not photographing for clients, I like to take on personal photography projects. I have a list of businesses, people or places that interest me, and I then go about photographing everything about them to document their story. The joy is being able to bring together the narrative, to tell the story through a collection of beautiful images. Recent documentary projects are Pinney’s of Orford, Maldon Oysters and a small collection of images from a work trip to Mexico City.
