Creating Industry-Aligned Micro-Credentials at The University of Melbourne

In 2022, the University of Melbourne participated in a research study in collaboration with a group of cross-sector partners that included EdTech companies, education providers, researchers, and international organisations as part of a Global Victoria EdTech Innovation Alliance initiative.

After the success of the study, the University of Melbourne initiated a project to develop new microcredential courses, Melbourne MicroCerts, that integrated the use of rich skill descriptors (RSDs) stored in openRSD, skills or industry-based capability framework alignments and issued digital credentials with embedded Personal Evidence Records through Edalex’s Credentialate platform to those learners who successfully earned their microcredential.

A Whole of School Digital Recognition System With Hunter School of the Performing Arts (HSPA)

The Hunter School of the Performing Arts (HSPA) is a government-funded co-educational specialist primary and secondary school. It offers a comprehensive curriculum, with a performing arts specialty. HSPA is located in Broadmeadow, in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. HSPA’s vision is to provide a creative learning environment where excellence is nurtured to enable all students to perform at their best.

In early 2022, HSPA challenged Edalex and their integration partner, Learning Vault to create a digital credential solution that would track student progress towards mastery, reduce current reporting administrative overheads and provide visibility across the learning journey for all stakeholders in the learning community.

Korus Connect Progressive Skills Recognition Program

A Progressive Skills Recognition Program at Korus Connect

The Korus Connect Progressive Professional Development Program is based on a Learning Relationship Management (LRM) model, which allows for progressive skills development for any group of learners in a professional area. It also provides organisation-wide visibility of professional development.

The system contains a ‘warehouse’ of more than 250 possible skills or learning outcomes, drawn from role descriptions and course curricula. Once learners participate in a course or record an activity, they are issued a digital badge that recognises the skill level they’ve demonstrated.

The project involved the integration of four platforms: Edalex provided a Credentialate tenancy, openRSD account and a third party badging agent.
