About eBOUND Digital Certification
eBOUND Digital Certification is a Canadian grown ‘whole file health certification”. This certification includes the auditing of accessibility features to the highest standards and the availability of content on retail sites.
Standards and Guidelines:
- EPUB Accessibility 1.1 specification
- World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA
- Robust metadata for key discoverability purposes, including:
- Keywords
- Pricing
- BISAC to THEMA mapping
- Accessibility metadata
- Contributor locations
- Related material metadata
- Audience code metadata
- Trade reviews and blurbs
- Title covers that meet vendor requirements
- Ensuring titles are live on the following vendor sites:
- Kobo
- Amazon
- Apple
- OverDrive
Process:
The eBOUND Digital Certification process will include a check through EPUB Checker, ACE by Daisy, and ACE SMART. Each publisher will receive a certification assessment that outlines “Required” and “Strongly Suggested” changes to meet the minimum WCAG AA accessibility requirements. A discoverability audit report will be included, indicating if a title is available on vendor sites, keywords and supporting metadata are updated, and feedback for areas of improvement.
To pass the eBOUND Digital Certification, all “Required” accessibility changes must be made and a minimum of 80% of “Strongly Suggested” requirements must be met. Discoverability results are informational only and will be the responsibility of the publisher to apply.
