Best Netherlands Hosting Providers – I Tested 5 Providers

Finding the right hosting provider in the Netherlands can be a challenge. The market is filled with options, from large international players to smaller, independent companies. To find the best fit for my projects, I decided to test and compare five popular providers: TransIP, Mijn.host, Weboke, Strato, and Vimexx. Here is my personal review and verdict.

The contenders: a quick overview

Before diving into the details, here’s a quick introduction to the five providers I tested:

  • Mijn.host: An independent provider known for fair pricing and great performance.
  • TransIP: One of the largest and most well-known players in the Dutch market. Raised their prices often in the last few years.
  • Weboke: A smaller host that prides itself on personal and high-quality support.
  • Strato: A large, German-based international company with very competitive pricing.
  • Vimexx: Famous for its extremely low prices, often referred to as a “price fighter”. Also raised their prices often in the last few years.

My experience with each provider

Mijn.host: My top choice for price, performance, and principle

After all my testing, Mijn.host came out as the clear winner for me. They hit the sweet spot on every front. What I appreciate most is their status as an independent company, without big investors pushing for aggressive growth through price hikes. This is reflected in their fair and stable pricing. A .nl domain still costs around €5 a year, a refreshing contrast to TransIP.

Their technical setup is also excellent. They use a LiteSpeed webserver with DirectAdmin, which provides great performance. Their custom control panel is a simplified version of DirectAdmin, making it very user-friendly, but you can always log into the full version for more control. Their reseller hosting packages are also exceptionally well-priced and have been running flawlessly for me.

Finally, their support is exactly what I look for: fast, clear, and helpful, all via email. No complicated ticket systems, just quick and accurate answers. While their VPS offerings are slightly more expensive than a mass-market player like Strato, they are still very competitive and offer great value.

TransIP: The established but expensive leader

I used TransIP for years to register my domains. Their platform is solid and their technology is reliable. However, their pricing strategy has become a major issue for me. Over the years, prices have increased dramatically, especially for domain renewals. When I first signed up, a .nl domain was around €5 per year (ex. VAT). In 2024, that same renewal costs almost €15. This trend of sharp price hikes after an initial low price seems common among larger providers, and it was the main reason I started looking for an alternative.

Strato: The international powerhouse

Strato is a huge player in Europe, and their offers are hard to ignore. Their prices, especially for VPS packages, are incredibly competitive. They offer a lot of resources for a very low monthly fee, often beating Dutch-only providers on paper. While their service is okay, it can feel a bit corporate and less personal. It’s a solid choice if raw specifications for the lowest price is your main goal.

Vimexx: The budget champion

If you are looking for the absolute lowest price, Vimexx is almost always the answer. They are known for their rock-bottom prices on shared hosting and domain registrations. For simple websites or projects on a tight budget, they offer incredible value. While the performance is decent for the price, the focus is clearly on being the cheapest, which might come with trade-offs in other areas for more demanding users. They also raised their prices in the last few years.

Weboke: A fantastic runner-up with a personal touch

Weboke was a very pleasant surprise and is my second favorite provider. They may not be as big as the others, but their total package is fine. It feels personal, responsive, and genuinely helpful. The performance of their hosting is solid, and their pricing is fair. And I liked their AI website builder most of all builders I tested.

Conclusion and my final recommendation

While all five providers are good options depending on your needs, Mijn.host is my overall favorite. They offer a fantastic balance of fair pricing, modern technology, and excellent, no-nonsense support. It feels like a sustainable and customer-focused choice for the long term.

  • Best overall: Mijn.host, for its unbeatable combination of price, performance, and fair business practices.
  • Best second: Weboke, a close second and a great choice if you value a personal connection.
  • Best on a budget for shared hosting: Vimexx, if your primary concern is the lowest possible price.
  • Best for raw VPS Specs: Strato, if you want the most server power for your money.
  • A solid, big player: TransIP, still a good option if you don’t mind the premium pricing for renewals.
