Dental Dilemmas: 15 Oral Diseases and What to Do About Them
Speaker:
Jan Bellows, DVM, DAVDC, DABVP
Oral disease remains one of the most underdiagnosed and undertreated conditions in small animal practice. In this fast-paced, case-based one-hour seminar presented by a board-certified veterinary dentist, participants will review 15 of the most commonly encountered oral diseases in dogs and cats and learn practical, evidence-based strategies for diagnosis and treatment. Using clinical photographs and intraoral radiographs, this presentation focuses on improving diagnostic accuracy, avoiding common treatment mistakes, and identifying when referral is indicated. Attendees will leave with immediately applicable protocols that improve patient outcomes and elevate the standard of dental care in general practice.

Managing Chronic Canine Allergic Dermatitis: Going Beyond JAK inhibitors and mAbs
Speaker:
Andrew Simpson, DVM, DACVD
Canine atopic dermatitis is a chronic disease that requires a long-term plan for management. In today's world, there are multiple anchor therapies to discuss with owners including three different Janus kinase inhibitors as well as anti-IL 31 monoclonal antibodies. However, challenging cases may require a multimodal approach to help provide the greatest possible control of disease. As there is no one-size-fits-all approach to managing chronic atopic dermatitis, complementary therapies should be discussed with clients. This can include barrier replacement, dietary supplementation, anti-infective topical therapy regimens, and parasite prevention, while keeping in mind which flare factors can cause acute worsening of chronic allergic disease.

A Research and Case-Based Discussion of Pentosan Polysulfate’s Effect on Degenerative Joint Disease
Speaker:
Erin Contino, MS, DVM, DACVSMR (Equine)
This course provides equine veterinarians with a research-based and clinically relevant review of pentosan polysulfate sodium (PPS) for the management of degenerative joint disease (DJD) in horses. The session reviews the pharmacology and mechanisms of action of PPS, including anabolic, anti-catabolic, anti-inflammatory, and vascular effects relevant to osteoarthritis. Experimental models and clinical field studies evaluating the safety and efficacy of PPS will be discussed to provide an evidence-based perspective on its therapeutic role. Case examples and practitioner experience will be used to illustrate how PPS is incorporated into clinical practice, including dosing strategies, administration considerations, and integration into multimodal osteoarthritis management plans. Participants will gain practical guidance on selecting appropriate cases, understanding safety considerations, and applying current evidence to optimize outcomes for horses with osteoarthritis.
