Nature’s Clean Hydrogen

Across the globe Decahydron has identified formations of ultramafic rock, rich in iron- and magnesium-bearing minerals like olivine. When water infiltrates these rocks, a chemical reaction known as serpentinization occurs that releases molecular hydrogen (H₂).

This hydrogen collects in rock fractures and pore spaces, trapped over geological time. Decahaydron is perfecting the technology to access and extract natural hydrogen, sustainably and affordably at scale, at a predicted cost of under $1/kg.

These same abundant ultramafic rocks also hold a second superpower, they can also absorb and permanently lock away carbon. When CO₂ is injected into these rock formations under the right conditions, it reacts with magnesium and calcium in the rock to form solid carbonate minerals.

This process is known as mineral carbonation, and unlike many other carbon removal methods, it is permanent. The CO₂ doesn’t just get stored, it becomes stone.

Clean Energy Out, Emissions Locked In

At Decahydron we have developed a single process that brings both benefits together. Our proprietary induced-generation methodology injects super-saturated CO₂ into ultramafic rock formations. This displaces trapped hydrogen, which we then extract and purify, while simultaneously mineralising the CO₂ and locking it away permanently as solid rock.

And because induced-generation stimulates hydrogen release directly at the source, it allows more to be recovered from each well, minimizing surface infrastructure and capex costs.
