In 2010 I began building research programs into forward-thinking product teams in San Francisco. Now I help product, design, and research leaders operate the human challenge of how we define, approach, and direct the work itself.
My work draws on an academic background of cognitive science and HCI, the great game of Brazilian jiu-jitsu (currently at brown belt and training no-gi in Porto), wide-ranging reading, and the architect Christopher Alexander's structural approach to complexity.
I write about what I learn in a newsletter and longer-form articles. Each year I hold time for a craft-sabbatical — the wine harvest or sake season, for example — and a good, long walk.
