What is Firm Training Program?

A structured training program that supports firms in meeting the regulatory post-registration training requirement for Investment Representatives (IRs) and Registered Representatives (RRs). Aligned with CIRO’s new proficiency model, it draws on CIRO’s Retail and Institutional competency profiles, to strengthen representative proficiency.

How is Firm Training Program structured?

The IR/RR Retail program includes seven core competencies:

  1. Initiate Client Relationships
  2. Know Your Client
  3. Product and Market Impact
  4. Suitability
  5. Execution and Market Integrity
  6. Maintain Client Relationships
  7. Conflicts and Ethics

The IR/RR Institutional program includes three core competencies:

  1. Conduct and Compliance
  2. Product and Market Impact
  3. Execution and Market Integrity

Each core competency contains multiple sub-competencies and the training for each sub-competency follows the same two-part structure:

  • Part 1: A targeted assessment designed to benchmark current knowledge levels and pinpoint specific areas for further development.
  • Part 2: Structured readings, quick checks for understanding, and supporting video summaries to reinforce growth where it’s needed most.

What are the key features of the program?

To ensure consistent standards, all sub-competencies within every core competency must be completed for an individual to fulfill the program requirements.

Assessments to determine established knowledge and guide next steps.

Targeted follow-on learning to deepen and advance role readiness.

Personalized learning pathways tailored to each individual's skillset.
