"Bondage,Whipping and role-playing have always been a part of human sexuality. But it took a bunch of Victorian sexologists to set us apart. In the late 1800's sadomasochism was no longer allowed to play the role that it had in other cultures, during other times--as sacredritual,a normal part of courtship,or a variation on regular sex that some people enjoyed occasionaly or frequently.Havelock Ellis, Krafft-Ebing, Sigmund Freud, and other colleagues created labels like "fetishist" "sadist" and "masochist" as diagnostic terms that carried the stigma of pathology." |
