About C&K Custom Remodeling
A Portland story, named for two kids
Lloyd Martindale is a Portland native, and the company carries his family with it everywhere it goes. C&K is named for his two children, Caleb and Kinsey. That choice tells you most of what you need to know about how he runs the business: it is personal, and his name is on the line with yours.
From the wrestling mat to the job site
Lloyd started out on the wrestling mat at the Lents Boys and Girls Club and went on to John Marshall High School. He earned a wrestling scholarship to the University of Oregon, where he competed while he studied. The sport stayed with him long after his own competing days. He became head wrestling coach at Clackamas Community College and coached at Portland State University.
The lessons carried over. Set the goal, do the work, hold the standard when no one is watching. Those are the same habits that show up on a C&K job site.
Learning the building trade
Before C&K, Lloyd learned the practical side of the business firsthand. He worked in property management for his family’s company, then spent years alongside licensed contractors. That is where he picked up building science, the part of remodeling most homeowners never see but live with every day: how a house breathes, drains, holds heat, and lasts.
Founding C&K, 2002
In 2002, with encouragement from people who knew him, Lloyd started C&K Custom Remodeling. The idea was simple and he has not wavered from it. Build a Portland general contractor people actually want in their home: customer-first, genuinely skilled, and professional from the first handshake to the final walkthrough. A clean, respectful, family-friendly job site was part of the plan from day one, and it still is.
Still on the mat
Lloyd never stopped coaching. He volunteers as a wrestling coach at a local high school, working with young athletes alongside running the business. He also trains and coaches Brazilian jiu jitsu at SBG Portland, still learning as much as he teaches. Same person on the mat as on the job site: invested, steady, and in it for the long haul.
