Bryan Hansel is a professional landscape and portrait photographer based in Grand Marais, Minnesota. He teaches photography workshops in national parks and along the North Shore, captures outdoor family and couple portraits, and sells fine art prints of Lake Superior and the Boundary Waters region. With over 20 years of teaching experience, Bryan’s workshops are designed to inspire photographers of all skill levels.

I’ve been teaching photography workshops since 2006, helping participants master their cameras, equipment, software, and creative vision. Many students return for multiple workshops and travel with me across the United States.
Workshop Goals:
I teach in a relaxed, flexible style, adapting lessons to both the conditions and each participant’s skill level. Group sizes typically range from 8–10 photographers, ensuring plenty of individual attention. Most workshops take place in Grand Marais, Minnesota, with many exploring the North Shore, Lake Superior, and the Boundary Waters region.
I also lead workshops in national parks across the country, including Badlands, Grand Teton, Death Valley, Theodore Roosevelt, Glacier, Great Smoky Mountains, and Wind Cave, as well as in the Black Hills, northern Wisconsin, and Iowa.
I hope you hear this all the time, but your workshop changed my life.

When you visit Grand Marais, the North Shore and surrounding forests provide perfect backdrops for family, couple, and vacation portraits. My natural, organic style captures authentic moments against stunning Lake Superior scenery.

I create award-winning photography to decorate your home or business. Choose from photographic prints, fine art canvas and metal. Custom materials and sizes available upon request.
My photography appears in magazines, calendars, and fine art collections. While I focus primarily on workshops, portraits, and fine art, I still collaborate with commercial art buyers on custom projects. For stock photography, I offer an extensive catalog featuring the Lake Superior and Boundary Waters region, perfect for editorial, print, or digital use.
When it comes to people, Bryan is a great teacher: everyone was treated equally, had opportunities to ask questions, and Bryan generously shared his extensive knowledge in ways that fit the skill level of the widely different group. There was a good mix of field time and classroom time. We visited a variety of beautiful sites and had fun – lots of fun!
