Synopsis
This week’s podcast focuses on a technique for in-person networking, and one that can make your meeting seem more welcoming to visitors.
The key to meeting people at a networking event is how you stand. When you walk into a room full of people, look for the open twos and open threes—groups of people that leave space for another person to join them. In an open two, the two people talking are not directly face-to-face, but stand shoulder-to-shoulder at an angle.
If you are hosting an event, remind people to open up their groups. If you have an open stance, you’re going to meet a lot of people that you may not have had an opportunity to meet in the past.
To help you visualize the difference between open groups and closed groups, we’ve included some helpful illustrations from Dr. Misner’s book Networking Like a Pro, Second Edition. Click the images to enlarge them.

Try changing your stance next time you’re at an in-person event, and share what happens in the comments.
