About us

The School of Engineering and Innovation brings together world-class expertise across chemical engineering, biomedical technologies, mechatronics, civil infrastructure, and design-led innovation. Our teaching is grounded in real-world application and shaped by the needs of industry, while our research drives progress in areas such as sustainable energy, advanced manufacturing, and healthcare technologies. We are home to internationally recognised research centres including the Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI) and the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT), where interdisciplinary teams tackle global challenges with impact.

Our teaching

Our teaching is designed to maximise the future success of our students. It is informed by cutting-edge research in engineering education and shaped by our strong partnerships with industry. We are proud to be among the top institutions for student outcomes, thanks to our focus on delivering the right skills, knowledge and experience at the right time and in the right way.

All undergraduate students in the School of Engineering and Innovation benefit from Aston’s pioneering Power Skills programme, which embeds four essential competencies into every degree: AI & Digital, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Inclusive Leadership, and Environmental Sustainability.
