DISH TV equipment
Few TV providers can compete with DISH’s Hopper 3 device, which can record up to 16 shows at once and supports 4K viewing and streaming app access.
You’d think such an advanced device would come with a hefty rental fee, but rental fees for the Hopper 3 and smaller boxes, “Joeys,” are actually pretty reasonable compared to other providers.
DVR and receiver fees
The rental fees for DISH receivers and DVRs are inexpensive, with the Hopper 3 monthly rental fee at $10 and the Joey rental fee at $5 each. It’s not all good news, however. There is also a one-time fee of $50 to get the Hopper 3, and if you want 4K-enabled Joeys, you’ll likely have to pay another $50 upfront for each additional device. So if you get the Hopper 3, plus two 4K Joeys, initial costs could add up to $150.

Tips for DISH users
Our experts recommend choosing a DISH satellite TV package if you live in a rural area where satellite is your best option.
We also recommend checking out any deals or promotions DISH may be offering to new customers. For example, you could get free limited-time streaming, access to special channel packages or gift cards up to $300 when signing up. However, promotional pricing and access to extra features will usually require a two-year contract, credit qualification and could impose early termination fees (ETFs).
DISH self-installation is an option if you don’t mind spending time instead of money. The install process requires light mechanical work, and you will likely have to climb on top of your home’s roof.
If you pay your bill late, you’ll be charged a late payment fee of $10.00 – $12.00. If your credit card or bank account returns the payment for insufficient funds, there is a returned payment fee.
If you break your DISH contract early to switch providers or move, you will be charged an ETF of $20.00 for each month left on the contract.

Our methodology
We evaluate broadband providers in four categories: affordability, performance, value and customer satisfaction. Each category contains multiple sub-factors, all of which are weighted differently to impact the provider’s overall score.
For each sub-factor, we score all providers on a continuous scale of one to five, relative to the industry as a whole. Because the average download speed in America is currently 290 Mbps, for example, we assigned all plans with download speeds between 100 and 299 Mbps a score between three and four. Xfinity’s 200 Mbps plan received a 3.50 score for download speed, while Spectrum’s 500 Mbps plan got a 3.71.
We only considered standardized data points in our scoring system. More abstract data like consistency of service and brand reputation is still part of our analysis, but we opted to let our writers address them in the context of each review.

How much is it to cancel DISH?
If you cancel your service within the two-year service agreement, you’ll be charged an early termination fee (ETF) of $20.00 for each remaining month of your contract. So, if you have six months remaining in your agreement, you’ll be charged $120.00 by DISH if you cancel service.
Do I have to return DISH equipment?
If you are currently in possession of a Hopper, Joey, Wally, LNBF or Node/Hub from DISH, you’ll need to disconnect and return the equipment to the provider. Follow the applicable disconnection steps and package your equipment in the appropriate wrapping of your choice. Attach the prepaid label and ship the box at any local UPS location.
