WS RTSP Proxy Server by Streamedian is a lightweight, real-time proxy that bridges RTSP-enabled sources (such as IP cameras and NVRs) with modern web applications. It terminates RTSP/RTP on the server and forwards the media over WebSocket, allowing browsers to play live video without plugins. Designed to work seamlessly with the Streamedian HTML5 player, it preserves original media formats whenever possible, delivering low-latency playback and minimizing server CPU usage.
Key capabilities:
- RTSP-to-WebSocket bridge for browser-based playback without plugins
- Compatible with Streamedian’s JavaScript player and other WebSocket-based clients
- Pass-through operation (no transcoding by default) to reduce latency and resource usage
- Supports connecting to protected RTSP streams (e.g., Basic/Digest authentication)
- Can handle multiple viewers per source and start pulling streams on demand
- Works across firewalls/NAT using a single TCP/WebSocket connection
- Can be deployed behind standard HTTPS/WSS reverse proxies (e.g., Nginx) for secure access
- Straightforward setup and configuration suitable for embedded dashboards, control rooms, and remote monitoring
Typical use cases include embedding live IP camera feeds into web dashboards, building monitoring portals without browser plugins, and enabling low-latency viewing over secure, firewall-friendly connections. If browser compatibility requires formats not natively supported, the proxy can be paired with a separate transcoder; otherwise, it prioritizes efficient pass-through delivery.
WS RTSP Proxy Server is developed by Streamedian. The most popular versions of this product among our users are: 1.8, 3.1 and 3.3. The name of the program executable file is activation_app.exe.
