I live in upstate New York State, teaching writing and literature at a community college, in the classroom and on-line. I did my college work through SUNY and Middlebury College and Rutgers -- all fine places. I'm interested in the things language opens up, poetry, the mysteries of teaching, the constant self-invention. I still see the community college in the way it was envisioned in the 1950s, as a movement, though so much of the potential of this movement has been discarded, forgotten, wasted. I'm optimistic about the value of teaching, about the power of an individual to effect meaningful change in small doses: the drip-drip of water that wears away the rock.
