That’s the equivalent of time.

Of course we all want it to speed by at times… to get to the end of winter like all of us these last few weeks, to get out of work at the end of the day or week or to get to a vacation, moving day, new job, etc.

But, at the same time, with each day that passes, so does a day of our lives that we can’t get back.  We have only memories of the days and we can take that information and move forward with the lessons we learned but we can never move backwards and we don’t get do-overs!

All of what we learn can be used to move forward and move into different roles.  Maybe I don’t want to do nursing hands-on anymore but I love the teaching side of it and I am loving this new writing gig as I’m still taking from my wealth of knowledge and sharing it with the world!

I submitted my first article last week and got paid.  The wonderful person I’m doing these for sent me five articles that had been written and asked if I would review and edit.

Hmmmm…

Unfortunately the flow, the sentence structure, the, well, everything, is pretty disastrous so I’m finding myself doing a lot of rewriting rather than editing.  Okay, I’ll take the pay-cut on these five to do but it has also been a learning curve for her because as I send her the rewrites she has been in awe!  Her words to me when I did a fast rewrite of about a paragraph and a half of one of the articles she sent me… “Honestly, it’s like I’m having an epiphany…mind blowing…”

So I work at my own edits of my Christmas Judge story and I work at her edits.  I now have two complete and will push on!

So even when you push past days and times in your life to reach the better days and times make sure you take with you the experiences you gained from those days because you just never know when it’s going to crop up in your writing without you even knowing it!

Of course the last two days have passed in a flash for me and I have yet to remind you that my books have been free the last two days in celebration of SPRING!  So hurry, don’t miss out on these.

Third Edit Complete!

I just finished entering the third round edits!  I somehow managed to follow all my arrows and directions.  I cut and paste and sometimes just cut but somehow managed to finish it!

I had a few bumps along the way where I had made a note to go to some other page but when I re-read what I had there, it didn’t make any sense to me.  It was in those moments that I walked away for a bit.  In the wee hours of the morning I would realize that what I had done wasn’t going to work and that it would have to be skipped.

That’s why I now look to merely print it and edit it for spelling, grammar and flow.  I have no intentions of changing anything further!  As long as the flow is there and I don’t find some enormous issue, this is it!

The Trinket Box will be done!  And by done I mean PUBLISHED!!!  And I can’t wait!  From the starting notes of early last July to the closing bars starting to play, my latest opus is coming to a close!  What music would I put it to?  Despite my wide knowledge of music, I don’t know.  Will I ever know?

As authors, can we ever compare our work to another art form?

I am afraid, however, that this will be my first novella.  It has fallen just shy of 40,000 words.  Apparently that seems to be the in thing for ebooks right now so perhaps this is a good thing!

It is a long weekend here as we celebrate Queen Victoria’s birthday and I have another day remaining!  By bedtime tomorrow I could easily have this up and published… or, I may need yet another weekend to put the finishing touches on it.

I think I will print this new copy of my manuscript then sit outside with my new copy of The Writer and see if there is anything new I can learn!

Editing Chapter 10…

That’s how far I’ve made it in the editing process!  And I haven’t added great gobs of words like I was hoping.  In fact I’ve added little.  Changed a fair bit–wording, grammar, missing quotations and periods (go figure)–but not added a lot.  I have at least 10 more chapters to go though so you never know!

I did do a lot of editing when I typed it out so that could be a contributing factor!  I might just be stuck publishing my first novella!

I guess that fits with what they’re saying about ebooks right now though.  Rumour has it that Amazon and the rest of the ebook publishers are saying that shorter is what’s making the cut right now.

I’m going to hold off on judgement of my own work until I reach the end!  Get it edited, see if there’s anything else I”m going to add.  I haven’t implemented any of the potential changes I had typed out a couple of weeks ago.  I just haven’t found the right way to do it and I’m not sure those changes are right… I can’t see some of it really working–I think my mind was trying to expand what I had rather than seeing workable ideas.

Sometimes I find editing frustrating and other times I find it exhilarating–despite it being daunting, it’s MY work.  I brought this into the world, but before I can present it to the world, I need to improve it.

Yeah, let’s go with that!

I finally had the time on Thursday to log on to Amazon and publish my YA novel as an e-book!  Of course now I would like to do it with all my books but I’d have to delete them as e-books on Lulu first (which really isn’t a big thing is it?).

But it was soooo easy! I was actually surprised.  I think the most difficult part was having to set up my account because I’m Canadian so I had to “sign” a waiver because it’s classified as taxable income.  But they have to sell first!

Right now it’s $2.99 at http://www.amazon.com/Changes-Time-Pamela-Clayfield-ebook/dp/B00LI2JCBC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404655326&sr=8-1&keywords=pamela+clayfield but starting August 3, for one week, it will be $0.99. 

It really did help to do that!  It’s amazing how the subconscious works!  I also got my issue of Writer’s Digest but have hardly had time to read it!  Hopefully there will be a few suggestions in there.

If you really want to publish an e-book, it’s really easy.  Go to Amazon.com and search for the publish section.  Click on Kindle Publishing and set up your account. The only thing you really need to do is make sure that your book is formatted in Word.  I had my book formatted for the 6×9″ hardcopy and Amazon accepted the file no problem.  You create your cover and you’re off!  It’s incredibly easy!!

So, I’ll go back to writing (although that is what I’m doing right now) and see if I can come up with the great sequel to Changes In Time that I have sketched out here beside me.
