Hello there, world! I’m JenT and I’ve been on the interwebs since, good grief, the late 1990’s, when modems still connected to the www by singing to it.
I started my internet journey with two hand-coded websites. Four years later, I moved those sites to WordPress 1.2 and never looked back. Even in 2004 the learning curve in setting up and maintaining a self-hosted WordPress website was considerable (PHP? MySQL? cPanel?! Cron Job?!!), when all I wanted to do was get my content online quickly and easily.
Suddenly, and perhaps prophetically, in 2006 my web hosting provider went bust and a new opportunity appeared:
Hello WordPress.com!
Since then I’ve hosted my sites here on WordPress.com, where I’m a former community forum whisperer, current volunteer, blogger and WordPress™ beta tester (Sh! We all are).
Many WordPress.com site owners aren’t aware that features for new versions of the standalone WordPress software are tested here first before being shrink-wrapped and shipped to the larger WordPress.org community. Add to that the cross-pollination between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, thanks to the Jetpack plugin, which has led to some interesting and inevitable confusion.
This makes WordPress.com a continual adventure and I love to explore it. At the same time, I understand this “adventure” doesn’t suit everyone. Join me and let’s explore together!
