Dr. Andrew Blaber

Andrew P. Blaber, Ph.D.(Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, Canada): Prof. Blaber is an Aerospace Physiologist with extensive experience in ultrasound measurements with patient, space analog (bed rest), and astronaut populations (ISS and Shuttle). He has expertise in cerebral regulation, cardiovascular dynamics, and the effects of altered g environments on orthostatic reflexes. He is the author of the first paper to report cerebral dysregulation in astronauts. He is director of the Aerospace Physiology Laboratory at Simon Fraser University and has Chaired NASA Human Exploration Research Opportunities (HERO) research panels for several years. He has over 80 peer-review publications with more than 100 presentations at conferences and meetings. He is the originator of the cardio-postural interactions model and has validated the muscle-pump blood pressure reflex in which decreased function could be a key component in loss of control of blood pressure during standing in older persons and returning astronauts. In 2018 he was short-listed for the position of Scientific Advisor to the president of the Canadian Space Agency.
