Rachael Boyd and Anna Seigal are postdocs (postdoctoral researchers) in maths. They started Picture this maths back in 2015 when they were starting out on their PhD journeys on opposite sides of the world.
The goal of the blog is to share pictures of mathematical things from their research and other mathematical interests. Pictures are valuable tools for understanding ideas in maths: often an idea or proof can be explained using a picture. Despite this, pictures do not play an important enough role in mathematical writing. This blog aims to counteract this by placing pictures at its centre.
Since starting, the blog has also featured guest posts from Yael Degany, Kitty Meeks, Nina Otter, and Katie Vokes, as well as interviews with a several others. We’ve received nearly 40,000 visitors from (according to the wordpress statistics) a baffling 165 countries. Thank you for stopping by!
Dear Rachel and Anna,
I long thought of starting a blog like this but eventually ended up starting a company. I sincerely wish if both of you can write a guest blog for us from the comfort of your time.
Best,
Vijay
