That could mean incorporating refrains, neologisms and flights of whimsy, or repeating/inverting lines or ideas – whatever your chosen musical form would seem to require! Perhaps a good way to start is to listen to your favorite piece of music and “free-write”. . .”

Ever single part of me seems to ache, to bleed,

But nothing else is coming through, no sense of relief.

I wish you’d leave me all in peace,

Because in the dark I’m tired; I still seek life,

But, Heaven is the only place that I will find relief.

And you say I’m strong, even though I’m weak.

All I wish is that your words could cut through hurt and bleak,

But, you say I’m strong, when I’m torn and frail.

You say I’m beautiful even though my eyes fade deep,

And I can’t keep on fighting this, a war in the castle keep.

All I need is God’s grace here, let me find a world of peace;

All I needed was all of you, but now you’ve passed in sleep.

And hear I am, a weeping child, in a world of disbelief,

Rules without logic, they don’t mean a thing;

And I can’t find relief, any sense of real,

Still, you say I’m strong, although I can’t find the words;

You say I’m tough, though I’m dying in the bleak.

You tell me to keep faith, and I keep pushing through,

You tell me I’m worthy, though I’m insecure and blue.

So, now I write some final words, now I write, so that you know;

Read your Bible, learn every word, it’s your only hope,

Hold your faith and keep it near; keep it close to you for peace.

You say I’m strong when battles are waged, though never quiet won;

You say I’m tough, when my feet can’t walk, my eyes won’t sleep.

Still, God will raise me up; God will raise me through.

In my heart, in my mind, I will find serenity assured,

Though I wage a war, He will save my soul,

For he ensures I’m strong, even when I’m weak;

He helps conquer all,

And in him there is infinite peace.

Your broken walk, your deceptive talk,

You meat-eater, man-eater,

Frigid walls of your heart echo without beat.

Cowardly harlot of bitter teeth,

Take all your bites,

Leave the bones picked clean.

Starving the peasants,

In your shallow retreat.

Malice, miscalculations,

Your sins they visit your neighbours.

The harvest is barren,

No fruit bursts eaten.

Devouring the land,

You think no one knows,

But I know your shame is complete.

And for some odd reason,

I pity the weak.

I pity your barren soul attacking,

Then, retreating.

I’ll not be the swimmer,

Drowned by your weighted pulls,

Clawing acrylic fingers.

No noose will scrap your delicate throat.

I’ll ignore your Siren’s call,

Your voice a hollow sound,

Freedom’s a melody that calls to me,

A treble cliff in the sky,

Floating music notes that speak of remorse.

Your siren’s lure,

Has been escaped.

The magician knows,

Reality’s illusions.

Here we gather, today it finally hit —

Me, you won’t be coming back; such grit —

You displayed, at the crux, as death grew near.

There was no “going gently” for you dear.

I always admired that you were strong,

At the finish you groaned your last song.

The pain was so great, it hurt us to see,

A candle flame who flared, flickering free.

Death was not easy, nor was your young life.

But you always shouldered through the strife.

A kind, giving person — philanthropist,

With death, you became a minimalist.

Objects hold memories, the Stone’s song we know —

well: “You Can’t Take It With You When You Go.”

As we remember, we wonder why —

Three-years ago you left, disappeared wide —

Across the world, sending postcards to —

Us all, as you adventured across through —

Every country you could see with no —

Face Time, Skype; we were scared you wouldn’t come —

Back; but you knew how sick you had become.

That’s why you left, returned, with all of your —

Stories to share as you withered, poorly —

Weak and fragile, all your living used up.

Your garbled words, they don’t make sense,

They were the last words you wrote, then;

You disappeared, no trace of whence,

You’d return, so explain again,

Why you left me alone heart so rent?

Why you can’t explain our past tense?

You’re not weak, but through aged lense,

Disease stole my gentlemen.

You were young, full of life intense;

With passion for dreams, no pretense.

The man you were is gone; he’s distant,

Lost, his last thoughts code absurd.

I don’t understand, things he heard,

Why he aged quickly; ill concerned,

For someone who used direct words.

Now your life is finite, deterred.

“Imagine a scene, a train is pulling out of the station and a person standing on the platform looking dejected. What can have happened. Perhaps this person is someone in the station wishing to leave but for some reason hasn’t. “

So leaves the train, so leaves my heart,

Why him I once loved, now I know not?

Must have been his eyes so brilliant a green,

Gems such as emeralds, a sea-green storm brewed.

Was it his cavalier smile, his laugh?

With him I felt wanted, weak in the knees.

I was his Queen, he my adoring King.

He cared for me gently, said I shouldn’t stay —

On my own, for he loved me; fooled me,

Underestimated a woman cruelly scorned.

I saw cracks in the vase, facade crumbled,

An artist’s dream of beauty such a fake,

He left, emptied my pockets of money.

This con thinks he’s safe going to Bahamas,

Since he betrayed me, I say differently.

He’ll be doing some flying, and me thinks he’s done.
Thrown off the tallest bridge, out of the train.

Expensive was his end, but I’m appeased.

I watched his train moving away, still —

Missing his voice, his touch, time spent loving.

But I know he never loved me, I was ‘means’ —

To an end; yet, the ‘real end’ was his own.

Poem: For Suffering

If strength should find me,
I would prey, Lord take this pain away.

And he might answer:

“Yes, my child.”

And I could go on with my life.

And feel that I am fortified against the things that make me sad.

The sickness that I live with.

And I should prey, because prayer heals,

And I think God might be answering my prayers.

But I suffer just the same, as you prayed “Lord take this cup away.”

You promised to fight for me, If only I’d be still.

But having faith is so hard when all you want to do is move, not lie in bed all day.

Yet, I know that you are “I am,” with the whole world in your hands.

And I’m struggling still with the fact, that you would want this future for me

God, why must we suffer?

How could you cause us to feel pain, and love us so.

The answer given is sublime.

Take a look at He who suffered and died, it is so you might know Him so.

And in your misery become reliant on him.

Because when I am weak He is strong.

But I sing my fight song anyways,

I know that He fights with me now.

And every time I draw away,

He will bring me back again, in the most patient way.

I understand His reasons little

But that one day I should be with Him eternally.

And as a person of the world I walk a thin line.

That I must follow Him and His ways and still deal with being me, a hurting person,

Who wants to live just the way the world goes.

But strength I feel is coming from Him, so I might heal as he trains my soul.

And one day not feel this again, never in this lifetime or the next.
