Poem: Free Verse — “Waves” #amwritingpoetry

How do you understand yourself when you’re stretched past your limits?

Can you devise a genius plan or will you fail?

Times aren’t easy during delusion,

Powdery dust of summer after spring grass; rouge flowers of distinct brilliance.

All this confusion — Lord end it all.

No more days lost in summer’s haze.

We are your effervescent lights and you are our captain so let us serve gratefully.

Let us swoop as the mighty eagle, let us be swift as a hawk; lady hawk soaring sky high.

How do we survive in a society of whispers where the common good is questionable?

Where’s my sweetness, where’s does he persist?

As I linger he waits calmly with me;

He remains, he soars in the sky’s bright blue wonder and lands despite the crashing waves below.

Sea-green ripples push him forward as he struggles through foam;

Covered by deep blue water until he swims against the tide.

Here I welcome him home seething or full of joy.

This place is not fit for only one,

Keep us both close to one another and both safe;

Help me traverse your pathway and find hope, a reason to relax in respite.

Follow trails in glorious sunset, where we hum the tunes of the old world.

They blend with sanguine songs of the new world and we smile while our hands touch — linger: we wait —

To arrive to our home above, below the azure sky and cotton clouds.

With blessings of the Holy Spirit,

Let us find harmony, hands clenched in each others’;

Provide us perseverance to walk—on.

Deep chocolate eyes never breaking from mine,

Breath in the perfect serenity of nature’s other worldly silence.

A closeness and stick-to-it-of-ness, that will keep us close forever.

#OctPoWriMo Day 28: Poem —Lannet — « A Beach Journey Still » #amwritingpoetry

We grow, there are journeys tred, then ceased,

To trail diverse paths, rest and sip life.

Never near such nonsensical places worn,

Rather, amble in sunlight’s glimmer.

Laugh, near frothy tides, sigh —

Be free of burdens in sand, gleaming lakes.

SPF50, beach toys, volleyball;

Time to peruse a light book — content.

Where do we fumble to when rests end?

Why do we hold close the ethereal?

Or, we can just sunbathe, hear waves crash;

As kids build sandcastles, loved ones chat.

Serve cold beer, pop, sandwiches, ice-cream;

We embrace each moment wrung — life loved.

Poem: Free Verse — « The Oregon Coast » #amwritingpoetry

Credit: Isaac Ordaz via Unsplash.

The Oregon Coast was a wind-swept playground,

Sand dunes, caves cliffs, the Pacific Ocean’s pull.

White beaches scattered with crab shells, starfish, twigs, petrified wood;

All treasure thrown ashore,

Water swooshed, growing higher,

Flung into caves filled to the top at night.

The ocean claiming the entire beach the family explored;

The rush and hush of waves — swift, yet calming.

Enough to yank a child under the waves — even a careless adult.

The sky was cereulen-grey, as seagulls swooped,

To eat rusted-red crabs thrown ashore dried-out,

While others in minute movements threw themselves towards the tide.

Sharp-claws snapped as the children jumped, tittering;

Seagulls cawed and pelicans sang too,

Diving for fish they gulped with greed.

Riding pieces of trees on the waves, no hurry.

A little blond girl in a jean-jacket considered her surroundings;

Waves pummelled the shore, the wind fought back.

It yanked her hair with force; the family protected their faces arms lifted,

Blocking sand from pale-blue eyes, hazel-green, and deep-brown.

Pictures snapped numerous on an old ’90’s camera,

While boys in tye-dye t-shirts and shorts, jumped over the waves on-shore,

Leaping as the tide drove-in.

They guffawed, giggled, at the tide’s force,

Parents careful to draw their children closer.

As the waves crawled farther into shore,

Attempting to snatch those unguarded against the tide,

Seashells they collected, prickly starfish corpses;

Carried in the children’s pockets, in buckets.

Sand dollars also claimed, keepsakes for luck;

Clam and snail shells, treasured, and washed.

Pearlized insides smoothed by thumbs as they glimmered,

The wind fought hard, hair whipped across the little girl’s face,

The Pacific ocean lurked into shore farther; the sky dimmed.

Began it’s night-time trail forward, covering the beach, filling the caves.

Purple-darkness hovered, red-skies (at night time), mom and dad said, were ‘sailor’s delight.’

Then, the family gathered in their burgundy van,

Riding home with sandwiches and grapefruit pop.

Later, the children slept in car seats, on pillows;

Home to the hotel, the Oregon coast a stunning memory.

The crashing of waves against sand, treasures gathered;

The tied drifted in, leaving white beaches at dawn,

Tide-water swirling with the Pacific Ocean grande.

Sue watches blue-waves,

Forward she hops, brave;

Joy-gasps.

*****

Snapper the dog saves,

Grasps driftwood, she lays;

Beach-nap.

*****

A conch slides close caves —

In sand, Sue grabs, raves;

Shell-laugh.

#MayDay Prompt Day 22: Poem — Wrapped Refrain (2) — “Driving and Cycling: Beach Glory” #amwritingpoetry

For Day 22, the prompt is Cars and bicycles.

Credit: Nick Perez via Unsplash.

Wrapped Refrain (2) – 14, 8, 8, 8, 8, 14/ aa,bb,cc,dd, ee, ff,

Speak vibrant to me of fast cars, rising rapid freedom;

Bicycle paths leading through rocky trails of delight needed.

Let, not the world ache as we fly,

Find new beginnings, to e’er try.

New paths (less hills), and full throttle;

Zipping past green shattered bottles.

No tires let puncture: here let’s speed,

Diamond trails and gravel revealed.

Tell me of wondrous places we can see, ride towards free;

In celebration rev engines, bike with purpose, grande glee.

*****

Yesterday, in the car we travelled, fled roads far;

We drove past the vast ocean-teal in my saxe vintage car.

We pushed the pedal hard and fled,

As if we we’re chased by the FEDS.

Imagined car chase past beaches,

Ocean rushing forth and reaching;

Car parked at twilight ‘neath red skies,

Spinning wheels, we delighted.

Oceans calm hush sweeping blush-sand; we drove without much haste,

Now, we’ve returned to roads; thrilling adventure we taste.

*****

In the car’s saxe trunk we’d stored our speedy bikes; we’d flown here far.

Our tires air-filled, bike speeds geared right; some sights we remarked.

We left the saxe vehicle,

We biked paths, ocean agreeable;

From a wind sweeping vantage point.

We fled as if chased quick, adroit.

We passed through waves hitting hot sand,

Down rocky trails we despanded.

Breathing salt, sweat, tiredness; inhaling liberty we cycled.

Through the beach, trees, rocky paths, all our pain lifted, brightened.

*****

As skies turned navy-ink, we returned bikes to trunk;

We removed wheels, then in sand ate our midnight lunches.

Enveloped with blankets from backseat —

Warmed tired limbs as night greeted.

We rested, ate sandwiches, cake;

Hoisted a tent in our tired state.

Lulled by the waves song, there we slept;

Vintage car, trusty bikes — freedom lept.

What sweet joy had we, far from noise, driving in sunbeams;

In gladness cycled, on beach tented, souls together seamed.

Sapphire bubbles float in the sky,

Dreamland ships are at port; the clouds laced with gold.

We’re journeying where I cannot know, to that unknown somewhere.

It might be difficult but there’s healing in these waters.

Davey Jones can’t escape his wretched locker,

And the seas are clear, crystal, and diamond.

And up we float from ocean to sky,

No lightening here, only the suns wayward blaze.

And breezes blow us away from the frothing,

Creatures yanking us below to perish.

Each day is fraught with the difficulty, but only a few with great pain,

And we learn to climb the mast, to let fly the sails too.

Maybe we’ll surprise the moon, let the light beam a tad longer.

Keep the darkness from falling, and the stillness of ice-cold waves —

Lovely the dawn with its orange pale-blue glow,

The waters of dew and the waves of the sun;

The storm might’ve wrecked us, but we’ll travel on.

We’ll traverse until the ship divides into whirlpools,

Or into green brilliance of atmospheric northern lit skys.

For now we ride sapphire wings shoot enemies with gold canons,

Giant fishes and vulture, both gather teeth gnashing all ’round.

Somedays grim frowns, soar backs weigh us down–

But so much learning can be absorbed in the sky-waters of morn.

Marmalade sky’s or savage seas.

It’s okay to be drowsy in sunrise,

The red horrors of morn fade, and the day somehow —

Builds endurance and progress,

Possibility, even if it’s minute.

A ray of hope jumping from skyline to shore.

Bringing tranquility though they’re be dim sights ahead,

And the black holes of brokenness.

But oh, never mind fear in the sky-waters —

For dawns brilliance is a mere moment;

But, our captain He keeps us,

In the gold-touched cloud atmosphere or watery deep;

In faithful hearts and prayer we discover profound relief.

Grey, bleak, fogginess floods through summer light. An icy breeze whipping hair in my mouth, as the gulls chirp overhead and my last bottle shatters; no more messages in a bottle, carried in the waves. Paper airplanes glide in the breeze, one after the other. Will the breeze carry these words far enough? To the next island, the next ship? Or will these bottle–less messages be pounded in the wild storm, in the coast? Will they be understand? Will they be heard? Or, will it be too late to say the words that are never easy to say, never were: “I need you anyways.”

#NaPoWriMo Day 4: Poem – “Soul Crooning Joy” #amwritingpoetry

For NaPoWriMo Day 4, the prompt is:

“And now for today’s (optional) prompt, inspired by Teicher’s poem “Son“. One thing you might notice about this poem is that it is sad, but that it doesn’t generate feeling through emotional words. The words are simple. Another thing you might notice is that it’s a sonnet – not in strict iambic pentameter, but fourteen rhymed, relatively short lines. Today, we’d like to challenge you to write your own sad poem, but one that, like Teicher’s, achieves sadness through simplicity. Playing with the sonnet form may help you . . .”

You can be around your things sad singing,

As if you were meaningless and abstract,

As if you’re loneliness was a forever fact.

You forget the joy of people mingling,

Then, azure-blue skies, clear your head’s ringing.

For a moment in lush nature you’re not lost,

Not alone, fretting and tossed —

As turbulent seas, their waves sling you into depths.

Perhaps, once you realize you won’t drown,

White-capped waves slow, gentle and soothing.

Without fear of hollowness engaged;

You can occupy yourself alone and grin,

Life’s balanced, you’ve both Joie a viva, and feel safe;

You can be alone, yet in a crowd — soul crooning.

#OctPoWriMo Day 15/Photo Challenge/Saturday Mix: Poem – Italian Sonnet – “Higher Ground” #amwritingpoetry #SaturdayMix #PhotoChallenge

For OctPoWriMo Day 15 the Prompt is based around Umbrellas. Also, I’m combining with NEKNEERAJ of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie’s Photo Challenge and Sarah from MindLoveMisery’s Saturday Mix based on Opposing Forces and the opposite word-pairs: harvest and plant, and lower and raise.

Credit: Kayla Erin.

I meant to use an umbrella — I failed,

The rain kept pouring, I couldn’t escape.

Thought this flood a dream raised; it was too late,

To escape the rising waters’ cold, and hail.

Our harvest, sea enveloped; I was pail.

Adrift in the Atlantic, no sails;

Waves engulfed all we planted, none were safe.

I bawled, darkness swallowed our home place.

I prayed, I shouted; the whole of me railed.

No umbrella could save a girl from disaster.

I swam swift as I quivered, believed —

In myself, hoped I still had a chance.

To survive despite wretched nature’s dance.

Then, on higher ground, flooding lowered, I —

Grabbed a steeple, a cross; prayed my thanks, sighed.

#OctPoWriMo Day 8/ #Saturday Mix/ #PhotoChallenge/ #MusicChallenge: Poem – “Storm from God” #amwritingpoetry #MLMM

For OctPoWriMo Day 8 the Prompt is moments of madness using a blitz form of poetry. You can find the form here from shadowpoetry.com. Also, I’m combining with Sarah from MindLoveMisery Menagerie‘s Saturday Mix Prompt of opposing forces. This week, she chose the opposing word pairs: admit and deny, and presence and absence. I’m combining with NEKNEERAJ’s from MindLoveMisery’s Photo Challenge, and lastly MindLoveMisery’s Music Challenge using Avril Lavigne’s “Head Above Water.”

Head Above Water” by Avril Lavigne

https://youtu.be/EKF6ghfcQic

The sea’s presence rises stories before me

Me, clenching my dress as awakes the storm

Storm unexpected as my toes clench sand grains

Storm rising as my heart wrenches, pulsing sobs

Sobs unheard as the monsoons rage

Sobs, in my ears, as the ocean steals me beneath

Beneath the sea, where I can’t reach safe shores

Beneath the waves, my breathe in absence fades

Fades as I pray, screaming inside, please

Fades, my memories of sadness, of hate —

Hate, I admit, I didn’t see the obvious

Hate that I missed the truth — oh, God

God, keep my head above water

God, hear my prayers as I beg for life

Life to live longer, to live fully

Life to see your infinite grace

Grace that tells me I can paddle

Grace that tells me I can swim

Swim past the terrors of watery depths

Swim past the darkness that swallows me wholly

Wholly, I’m becoming something more, out here

Wholly, it took near-death to find celestial lights

Lights of the shores as they glisten in day

Lights as crystals that refract, reflect the sunlight

Sunlight calls as I cough up half the ocean

Sunlight calls as I peel seaweed, spit-out salt

Salt of the earth, come closer now

Salt of the earth, keep me forever

Forever is never letting me stray far

Forever is supporting me as I float

Float in the surf, the sea shells cutting

Float half awake, not touching dry-land

Land, it’s a prayer mumbled between days

Land me on shore away from hostile depths

Depths of my cries, which no human hears

Depths of my tears, eyes stung by salt-spray

Spray my lips, don’t deny them purest water

Spray my skin, don’t deny it sweet moisture

Moisture that doesn’t tangle sopping hair

Moisture not burning as it seeps into weeping eyes

Eyes that fear such tempestuous seas

Eyes that fear such shadows swimming — worse, drowning

Drowning as new storms toss me each night

Drowning as the corals tear burnt skin from the sun

Sun stay longer as the sandbars come closer

Sun stay longer as my crimson blood trails — oh, God

God keep my head above water, come closer

God don’t let me drown, God . . .
